Carpinteria Sweeps Santa Paula in Dual Meet
The Carpinteria boys and girls swim teams swept Santa Paula in a make-up league dual meet Saturday afternoon at Carpinteria Community Pool. Carpinteria won the boys 135-8 and girls 126-43.
Erin Otsuki led the girls, winning both individual events, (500 free and 100 breast). It was the first time Erin competed in either race this year and she established CIF-SS Division 3 consideration times in both.
Taylor Classen also was a double winner, claiming the 100 fly and the 100 back.
The race of the day was between freshman Giulia Piccoletti and sophomore Lilli Nemetz in the 200 IM. They both recorded personal best-times and deeper CIF consideration times. Piccoletti touched the wall first at 2:26:24 and Nemetz in 2:26:49.
Other lady Warrior winners were: Monica Delgado (200 free), Malaya Morente (50 free), and Piper Clayton (100 free).
For the boys, senior Augie Sheaffer had a great day racing two new events on the season, the 100 fly and 100 breast. He made a consideration time in the fly and came three-tenths of a second from qualifying in the breaststroke.
Senior Matt Lamberti captured the sprint free events. Other winners include: Justin Main (200 free), Jackson Melton (200 IM), Eli Sheaffer (500 free), and Asher Smith (100 back).
“It was a great opportunity to utilize the weekend, which allowed parents to come watch their kids race,” said coach Jon Otsuki. “The meet was originally scheduled in mid-March and was postponed due to a lack of transportation on Santa Paula’s behalf.”
The Warriors travel to Fillmore on Tuesday then host Malibu for the season finale on Wednesday.
