San Marcos finished fourth in the 28-team Villa Park Tournament Saturday after losing in the semifinals and the third-place game.
The Royals lost a double-overtime thriller in the semifinal game against San Clemente, 18-17. Nic Prentice scored six goals for San Marcos. Hank Jessup and Jack Cunnison each scored three and Jordan Lind two.
One of Cunnison’s goals came in the second overtime, but San Clemente’s Ray Hickman scored two of his nine goals in that frame to decide matters.
In the third-place game, San Juan Hill prevailed 12-9. Jessup and Prentice scored three goals each to lead the Royals.
San Marcos, now 11-7 and ranked No. 1 in CIF-SS Division 2, plays Santa Barbara on Wednesday.
