San Marcos High School’s Warkentin Stadium in Santa Barbara was flooded with royal blue and red Wednesday evening as members of the Class of 2021 proudly walked across the stage and accepted their diplomas.
More than 430 graduates walked into the fully packed stadium as the crowds cheered and applauded under their masks and face coverings.
Graduating seniors Lux Coker, Isabella Magness and Jordan Klanfer pre-recorded their senior speeches, which were played before the start of the ceremony.
The ceremony began with a flag salute by Andrea Lising and the singing of the national anthem by the senior class singers. The San Marcos Madrigals then performed the senior class song in front of their graduating peers.
“Pandemic Principal” Kip Glazer spoke of all of the challenges that the students had to overcome before graduating on Wednesday.
“You had to truly learn how to be self-motivated each and every day because no school bell reminded you when you were supposed to be at school,” Glazer said. “So to the Class of 2021, I urge you to remember that you truly are the hero of your own epic story.
“You will remember there is so much good in this world that is worth fighting for.
“I want you to always remember this feeling of accomplishment and how you got here, because you never turned back.”
Glazer presented the graduates with their diplomas along with Santa Barbara Unified School District Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services Frann Wageneck by her side for the acceptance of class.
