The history-making San Marcos High baseball season came to an end on Tuesday in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.

The Royals lost a 5-4 decision at Sultana in Hesperia. Sultana scored four runs in the third inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit. Jimmy Hernandez hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs and tie the game. Sultana scored the eventual game winner on an error.

San Marcos finishes the season with a 19-5 record. The season included its first Channel League championship since 1996 and its first playoff victory in decades.

Sultana (16-4), which is 10-1 at home this season, advances to the quarterfinals.

Sultana right-hander and UC Irvine commit Finn Wall pitched a complete game and struck out 10. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks.

Henry Manfredonia slugged two doubles and Aidan Mandel hit one off Wall. Emmett Speake and Nick Fell each had two RBI.

Cole Schoenwetter, Fell and Chase Hoover pitched for San Marcos.
