The San Marcos girls and boys both came out on top of the Channel League meet Thursday in a way that made both coaches proud.

Standout San Marcos finishes included Sierra Tallman, who won the girls 200 yard freestyle and 100 butterfly crowns, as well as swimming legs in two relay wins. For the Royals’ boys, Jaran Depew won the 500 freestyle.

And San Marcos divers Jack Cunnison and Jessica Norman smashed school records in winning the boys and girls diving competitions, respectively.

“I am proud of my girls,” said San Marcos girls’ coach Chuckie Roth. “We trained hard this season, and I think it made each of them appreciate hard work and the results that come from that dedication.”

Added Royals boys’ coach Peera Sukavivatanachai: “I am really proud of the boys today — they came ready to swim and many of them hit new personal records in their individual races, ending the season with great stride.”

For the Dos Pueblos boys, standouts included Cooper Costello, who won the the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay. Brynn Graham was a double winner for the Charger girls, taking the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle.

For the Santa Barbara girls, Nalami Yim won the 50 freestyle. For the boys, Evan Encell-O’Hara won the 50 freestyle and swam legs of the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

For the Santa Ynez boys, Landon Lassahn won the 100 freestyle.

“I appreciate the efforts of the entire League, as I think all teams really brought their A-game to this meet, which pushed our boys to new times,” Sukavivatanachai said. “Ultimately, our team’s depth of talent and versatility of races enabled us to persevere and secure the League title.”

The San Marcos divers took first and second in both boys and girls competition. For the girls, Norman scored an 11-dive total of 491.05, besting her own school record. Royals sophomore Emily Mintz came in second with personal best score of 382.05.

“I was happy with my performance today and am looking forward to tightening up my dives for the CIF Championship meet next week in Mission Viejo,” Norman said.

For the boys, junior diver Cunnison took first with a school record 405.25, followed by senior Hank Jessup with a personal best 326.15.

“Jack had been out sick for several days prior to the meet, but came in relaxed and nailed his dive list,” San Marcos diving coach Michael Martz said.
