Eloise McGibben pounded eight kills in the middle and was tough from the serving line for the San Marcos girls volleyball team in a 25-9, 25-10, 25-16 sweep at Rio Mesa in the Channel League opener on Thursday.
Riley Green provided eight kills from the outside and Devyn Brunet supplied seven kills and had only hitting error on the outside.
“Happy for that kid,” said co-coach Dwayne Hauschild of Brunet. “She works hard every day and she took advantage of her opportunity to be a very productive player for us tonight.”
Hauschild gave props to setter Josie Gamberdella, who “distributed the ball to all of our hitters evenly,”
Kayin Cooney also provided tough serving to take Rio Mesa out of system.
“We had our best night yet from the service line, keeping Rio Mesa out of rhythm the whole night,” said Hauschild.
The Royals (1-0 in league) travel to Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
