San Marcos girls water polo went 1-1 against a pair of CIF powerhouses from Orange County on Friday at the Elings Aquatic Center.

The Royals were edged by Santa Ana-Foothill, 10-9, in their season opener and came back to beat Corona del Mar, 12-6.

“It was a good day for the team,” coach Chuckie Roth said. “We learned a lot and look forward to our game Saturday against Laguna Beach.

The Royals play the defending CIF-SS Division I champions at 11:30 at the Elings Aquatic Center. 

Of Friday’s opponents, Foothill was a Division 1 semifinalist last year and CdM was the division runner-up.

Cassidy Miller and Megan Musick each scored three goals to lead San Marcos in the Foothill game. Hannah Meyer, Ella Prentice and Claire Kronen each had one goal. Goalie Zosia Amberger made nine saves.

Ava Stryker tossed in four goals in the win over CdM, while Meyer and Kronen tallied two apiece. Musick, Kate Meyer and Miller each score one goal and Amberger stopped seven shots.
