The Santa Barbara Airport reopened at 1 p.m. Monday after closing for runway flooding from the weekend storm.

Airport officials grounded all commercial flights Sunday evening and Monday morning, paused private and charter travel, and closed the terminal.

Crews had been working throughout Monday morning to clean the affected areas, and the airport was able to reopen at 1 p.m., officials said.

Sunday’s storm dropped almost 3 inches of rain on the airport, which set a daily rainfall record.

The airfield experienced significant damage due to flooding, with several inches of water covering runways and taxiways, airport spokesperson Angi Daus, said Monday morning.

Three flights were grounded Sunday after the closure was announced, including Southwest, United and Alaska airlines flights, according to Airport Director Christopher Hastert.

Additional flights were diverted before the closure because of bad weather in the area, but Hastert said he was unsure how many.

Passengers are being advised to check with their airlines directly for flight status.
