Three Santa Barbara-area high school marching bands and color guards showcased their skills this week in a recap of competition performances.
The Santa Barbara Dons, San Marcos Royals and Dos Pueblos Chargers performed for a crowd of several hundred people at San Marcos’ Warkentin Stadium.
Many parents came to support their children, and joyfully watched the show from the stands.
Dos Pueblos and San Marcos students performed at the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association championships in Long Beach on Nov. 18. Dos Pueblos came in fourth overall and San Marcos placed 11th overall in their division.
For Tuesday’s show, Santa Barbara High students went first, wearing green uniforms and cloaks. Director Tyler Ravelli said their show, called “Coming Together,” is about friends reuniting after the COVID pandemic.
Dos Pueblos students used music, dancing and tuxedo costumes in their “Walk Down 52nd Street” performance depicting life in New York in the 1940s. They are directed by Aimee Ware.
San Marcos performers, directed by Michael Kiyoi, used a broad range of instruments to perform a medley of songs showing “The Art of Motion,” including piano, tuba, trumpet and drums.
Even though the weather was cold and gloomy Wednesday night, the three performances warmed the spirits of everyone watching.
