The Waterboys, Santa Barbara’s AYSO u14 team, advanced to the AYSO Section 10 Championships after an impressive performance in the Area playoffs over the weekend.
The team went undefeated in the regular season, going 10-0 while scoring 54 goals and holding opponents to a total of nine goals all year.
In the Area playoffs, the Waterboys went 1-1-1 in pool play and qualified for the elimination round by just one point.
Facing off against the top-seeded team, the Waterboys pulled out an impressive 1-0 win on a last-minute goal by Gabe Estrella to clinch a spot in the Section 10 championships.
“Many teams would have folded, but this group made some significant adjustments and figured out how to involve all of their teammates,” Waterboys coach Dan Brennan said. “We could not be more excited to represent our Region and Area in the upcoming Section 10 playoffs.”
The championships will be held on Feb. 17 and 18 in Bakersfield.
The Waterboys roster includes Maxx Biancone, Matty Brennan, Liam Cain, Gabe Estrella, Ramon Garza, Daxon Ingram, Declan Kindberg, Landon Ngai, Skylar Ngai, Connor Nightingale, Julain Thevenin-Owen, Lj Valerio, Jayden Velasquez, Noah Vernon and Beau Wagner.
The team is coached by Dan Brennan, with assistant coaches Tim Nightingale and Henly Ngai.
