The Santa Barbara Boys U10 All-Star soccer team captured their second straight AYSO Section 10 title in Bakersfield on March 3.
In pool play action, Santa Barbara went 3-0 by defeating Tri-Communities (5-0), Chatsworth/Porter Ranch (3-1) and Cutler/Orosi (7-1).
After defeating Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks in the semifinals, Santa Barbara moved on to face off against Canyon Country in the championship.
In the rematch of last year’s championship, Santa Barbara once again came out on top in penalty kicks, 4-3.
“Just like last year, Canyon Country scored the equalizer in the final minute to send the game to penalty kicks.” Santa Barbara coach Chris Runquist said. “But I was confident that our team would win again this year.”
Santa Barbara will now compete in the 2024 AYSO Western States Championships on Sunday at Lake Forest Sports Park.
The Santa Barbara All-Stars Boys U10 team members are Anders Runquist, Calvin Longbrake, Dax Snowden, Jax Haas, Kingston Chesluk, Liam Anderson, Luca Romero, Sebastian Gallegos, Shane Moore and Sylvester Bunker. The team is coached by Chris Runquist and Sam Chesluk.
