Preliminary election results show close races for Santa Barbara County’s Fifth District supervisor seat, auditor-controller and Superior Court judge races.
In other races, early results show strong leads for some candidates, such as Laura Capps in the Second District supervisor race and Melinda Greene in the race for clerk-recorder-assessor.
Salud Carbajal and Bob Smith are poised to face off for the congressional seat on the November ballot, with first and second place in early results.
The Santa Barbara County Elections Office will release additional election results later Tuesday night, and then release updates in the coming days as additional ballots are processed and counted.
The county must certify the June 2 election results by July 2.

- Maribel Aguilera-Hernandez: 33.6%

- Melinda Greene: 59.1%

County Superintendent of Schools
Susan Salcido (incumbent) ran uncontested and had 95.7% of the vote in early results.
Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator
Kimberly Tesoro ran uncontested and had 98.5% of the vote in early results.
The charter amendment related to leases of city property needs majority approval to pass (50% plus one vote) and had 67% approval in early results.

This sales tax rate increase from 8.75% to 9.25% would fund fund street repair and maintenance. It needs a two-thirds majority to pass, which is 66% plus one vote. It had 46.4% approval in early results.
