Preliminary election results show close races for Santa Barbara County’s Fifth District supervisor and Superior Court judge races.

In other races, the semi-official election night results show strong leads for some candidates, such as Laura Capps in the Second District supervisor race and Melinda Greene in the race for clerk-recorder-assessor.

Salud Carbajal and Bob Smith are poised to face off for the congressional seat on the November ballot, with first and second place in semi-official results.

The Santa Barbara County Elections Office released updated results throughout the night Tuesday and will post more updates in the coming days as additional ballots are processed and counted.

Local Election Results Roundup 

Fifth District Santa Barbara County Supervisor

  • Maribel Aguilera-Hernandez: 33.4%
  • Cory Bantilan: 29.4%
  • Ricardo Valencia: 36.7%

Second District Santa Barbara County Supervisor 

  • Laura Capps (incumbent): 76.1%

  • Sari Domingues: 40.2%

  • Luis Esparza: 49.3%
  • Thomas Adams (incumbent): 50.4%

County Auditor-Controller

  • Betsy Schaffer (incumbent): 48.3%
  • Kyle Slattery: 51.3%

  • Melinda Greene: 59.1%
  • Joseph Holland (incumbent): 40.5%

County Superintendent of Schools

Susan Salcido (incumbent) ran uncontested and had 95.6% of the vote in semi-official results.

Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator

Kimberly Tesoro ran uncontested and had 98.4% of the vote in semi-official results.

Santa Barbara Measure A 2026

The charter amendment related to leases of city property needs majority approval to pass (50% plus one vote) and had 66.8% approval in semi-official results.

Lompoc Measure B 2026

This sales tax rate increase from 8.75% to 9.25% would fund fund street repair and maintenance. It needs a two-thirds majority to pass, which is 66% plus one vote. It had 46.6% approval in semi-official results.

State Races

Santa Barbara County voters picked Tom Steyer, Steve Hilton and Xavier Becerra as their top California governor candidates, while statewide voters chose them in a different order: with Steve Hilton, Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer.
