The Santa Barbara Foresters pulled out a 2-1 victory over the MLB Academy Barons on Tuesday at Eddie Mathews Field.

The Foresters have now rattled off 10 consecutive victories and have improved their record to 14-1 to sit atop the CCL South standings.

After a scoreless first inning from Santa Barbara starter Jack Fowler (Pepperdine) and MLB Academy’s Gabriel Lopez, the Barons opened the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the second to go up 1-0.

That score held until the bottom of the fourth when Makani Nabarro (Hawaii) and Aidan Camberg (Pepperdine) were each hit by a pitch and Addison Klepsch (UC San Diego) singled to load the bases.

Sawyer Farr (Texas A&M) then came through with a run-scoring single to score Nabarro and even the score at 1-1. However, the next batter hit into a double play to keep the score there.

Fowler then tossed a scoreless fifth to finish off a solid outing in which he allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

The Forester offense jumped ahead in the bottom of the fifth when Chris Newstrom (Tennessee) doubled and came all the way around to score on a wild pitch on a dropped third strike to take a 2-1 lead.

That lead held for the rest of the game as Caleb Hoover (Nebraska) and Carter Speights (UC Davis) each fired two shutout innings to seal the Santa Barbara victory.

Farr, Newstrom, Klepsch and Kurt Ippolito all had solid days at the plate for the Foresters, collecting two hits apiece.

Santa Barbara will look for its 11th straight victory on Wednesday against the Philippines Baseball Group at 4:30 p.m. at Eddie Mathews Field.
