The Santa Barbara High girls basketball team suffered its fifth straight loss, falling to Santa Ynez, 37-35, at the Lompoc Tournament on Friday.

Chloe Adams scored 14 points and Dayzia Mendoza had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Dons.

“Costly turnovers late as well as mix-ups defending inbounds plays proved to be the difference in tonight’s game,” said Santa Barbara coach Andrew Butcher.  “Chloe Adams played a solid game on both ends of the court as well as in transition.

“The girls played with energy tonight and did not lack effort.”

Santa Ynez (4-4) got a big game from freshman Helina Pecile, who had nine points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Senior Jaydn Gardner scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

“The girls played well tonight and found a rhythm on the court,” said coach Jennifer Rasmussen.
