Santa Barbara High boys lacrosse kicked off the CIF-SS Div. 3 playoffs with an 18-12 victory over Woodbridge on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.
With the win, the Dons avenged a first-round loss to Woodbridge in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Santa Barbara will now be on the road against Martin Luther King High of Riverside on Friday at 5 p.m.
The Dons came out of the gates on fire, racing out to a 4-0 lead thanks to goals from Jasper Larrson and Flynn Chenoweth. A goal and an assist by Connor Jackson made the lead 6-2 at the end of the first.
The second quarter was more of the same as Jackson and Chenoweth continued to contribute on the offensive end to grow the advantage to 10-4 at halftime.
Woodbridge came out of halftime with the momentum, rattling off five straight goals to cut the Santa Barbara High lead down to 10-9.
Larrson and Caden Chessmar slowed down their momentum with goals to put the Dons up 12-9 with one quarter to play.
The Santa Barbara High offense exploded in the fourth to pull away for the 18-12 win as Chessmar scored twice and Chenoweth, Jackson, Larrson and Lincoln Lynn all scored once.
Chenoweth had a stellar all-around performance with five goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, Larrson scored six times and both Jackson and Chessmar recorded hat tricks.
