Santa Barbara High boys water polo fell to Sonora High in the Saddleback Tournament championship game on Saturday.
The Dons began the day with a dramatic 15-14 overtime win over Yorba Linda in the semifinals before falling to Sonora in a defensive battle, 9-6.
In the semifinal matchup, Santa Barbara High trailed 3-0 in the first quarter but battled back to keep the game close throughout.
After the two sides ended regulation tied, the Dons secured the win in overtime when Paolo Borgioli earned an exclusion and dished off a pass to Mason Walsh, who scored the game-winner.
Borgioli poured in seven goals and earned four exclusions, while Walsh scored four goals and tallied four assists. Gio Garcia and Jack Fulbeck each scored twice in the win, and Charlie Gray totaled six saves.
In the championship, Sonora raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter. The Dons found their footing late in the second and trimmed the deficit to 6-3 at halftime.
The two sides then exchanged goals throughout the second half as Sonora secured the win.
Borgioli had four goals and four exclusions earned in the title game, while Garcia and Fulbeck scored once.
Santa Barbara High will open Pacific View League play on the road on Thursday against Channel Islands.
