Santa Barbara High and Cate boys water polo competed in the opening day of the Buena Tournament on Friday in Ventura.
The Dons kicked off their weekend by going 2-0, while the Rams split their two matchups.
Santa Barbara High
The Dons began the day with a 12-9 win over Foothill Tech and kept it rolling with an 18-4 rout of Lakewood later in the day.
Paolo Borgioli turned in a strong all-around day with a combined seven goals and five saves across the two wins. Meanwhile, West Graham finished the day with five goals.
Calvin Nelley also got it done on both ends with three goals and nine saves. Will Stearns-Corbin and Luke Karman each tallied three goals as well, while Gio Goggia scored twice.
The Dons will take on Buena Park and Villanova Prep on Saturday.
Cate
The Rams pulled out a 6-5 victory over Royal before falling to Canyon Crest by a score of 15-1.
The win over Royal, Cate battled back from a 2-0 deficit and outscored its opponent 4-1 in the second half to earn the hard-fought win.
Sebastian Brine led the team with three goals, while Elliott Paige, Liam Moes and Fletcher Prince all scored once. In the cage, Andrew Sheshunoff collected 15 saves.
In the loss to Canyon Crest, the lone goal came courtesy of Paige and Sheshunoff tallied nine saves.
Cate will take on Redlands East Valley to begin the day on Saturday.
