Santa Barbara High cross country competed in the Division 3 portion of the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Friday morning.
The Dons’ Kik Van Engelen recorded a fifth-place finish in the boys race, while Sydney Burgoyne came in 11th in the girls race to lead her team.
“Nice races from [Van Engelen and Burgoyne]. They took some chances near the front early and finished strong and in control. They’re putting the pieces together and I’m excited to see what they do in the championship meets,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said.
Ethan Walp, Andrew Diaz, Lucca Lowry and Keoni Garcia Dumo rounded out the scorers for the boys, while Ariadna Aguilera, Meg Covington and Samantha Morello raced for the Santa Barbara High girls.
The Dons will now look ahead to the Santa Barbara County Championships on Wednesday at River Park in Lompoc.
