Santa Barbara High cross country had a trio of medalists at the Rosemead Invitational on Saturday in Los Angeles.
The Dons’ Kik Van Engelen, Sydney Burgoyne and Ethan Walp all secured medals and lifetime bests in a meet that featured over 100 schools and was broken up into grade levels.
Van Engelen led the way with a 15th-place finish in the Junior Boys race at 15:24, while Burgoyne took 16th in the Junior Girls race at 18:37 and Ethan Walp’s time of 15:30 was good for 35th for Senior Boys.
“It was a fast course with a great atmosphere, and the team made the most of it,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said. “We had some big breakthroughs today in terms of time, but more importantly in terms of competing with confidence in fast, deeply talented fields.
“We knew the racing would be fast, and we wanted to put ourselves right in it. We did exactly that early and were still able to move up late in the race. I’m really happy with how we competed today and looking forward to seeing where the rest of the season takes us.”
The Dons will compete in the Ojai Invitational next weekend.
