Santa Barbara High cross country competed in the Division 4 races of the Clovis Invitational on Friday in Clovis.
The Dons’ girls team recorded a 20th-place finish, while the boys squad came in 22nd.
The girls were led by 57th-place finisher Sydney Burgoyne, who was followed by teammates Ariadna Aguilera (137th), Viktoria Franco (141st), Meg Covington (142nd) and Aivary Bunnell (148th).
“Sydney has been our leader all season and today was no different. She’s been under the weather, but got out there and ran a 5K personal best regardless,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said.
“It’s always good to come out to Fresno and get the team experience with an overnight trip to a big invitational on the state meet course. You never know when you will be back running for a championship.”
Kik Van Engelen had a strong showing for the Dons’ boys team, crossing the finish line in 26th place. The rest of the SB racers were Ethan Walp (58th), John Tapia (167th), Oscar Green (173rd), Micah Fore (176th), Noah Davis (178th) and Andrew Diaz (181st).
“Kik and Ethan keep showing up and stacking solid performances and all seven guys ran 5K personal bests,” Perdices said.
The Dons will race in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Friday, Oct. 23.
