Santa Barbara High flag football split its doubleheader at the Coastal Clash Tournament on Saturday in Oxnard.

The Dons began the day with a 14-6 loss to Ventura before bouncing back with a 26-25 non-league win over league rival Channel Islands.

After Santa Barbara fell behind 14-0 to the Cougars, the Dons got on the board with a 4-yard touchdown run from Lanaya Solis. However, that was the lone score for Santa Barbara in the loss.

Solis and Elina Stump paced the offensive effort, with Stump also adding three sacks and Lylee Harris hauling in an interception.

In the second game of the day, Laila Hernandez connected with Destinee Lopez from 3 yards out to give the Dons an early 6-0 lead.

After Channel Islands responded with a touchdown and extra point to take the lead, Santa Barbara answered when Harris found Shea Gannon for a 6-yard score. Harris ran in the extra point to make it a 13-7 advantage for the Dons.

Solis added to the lead with a 5-yard touchdown, but the Raiders responded with two straight touchdowns to cut the SB advantage to 20-19.

Stump gave the Dons some cushion with a 17-yard touchdown run to bring the lead to 26-19, and that proved to be crucial.

Channel Islands marched down and scored on its next drive to make it a 26-25 game, but the Dons’ defense came through with a stop on the extra point to seal the win.

Stump had another sack of the defensive end in the victory, while Maddy Stoll and Eva Hervouet snagged interceptions. Summer Maxwell led the team with four flag pulls.

The Dons will have a rematch against Channel Islands on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
