Santa Barbara High dominated on both sides of the ball from start to finish in a 42-0 rout of Righetti on Friday at Warrior Stadium.
The Dons (2-2) will now head into the Big Game rivalry week with San Marcos, with this year’s installment kicking off next Friday at 7 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.
The Dons opened the game with a bang, as a strong opening kickoff return led to a 36-yard touchdown run by Everett Rabb-Preston on the first play from scrimmage to take a 7-0 lead.
After a defensive stop, Santa Barbara got another big play from its offense later in the opening quarter. Griffin Arnold dished out a screen pass to Cade Mault, who found a seam and exploded for a 60-yard touchdown to take a 14-0 lead into the second.
That score held for the majority of the second quarter until the Dons marched deep into Righetti territory and scored on a 1-yard plunge by Henry Crafton.
Santa Barbara High wasn’t done yet in the opening half, as another stop gave way to another screen-play touchdown pass from Arnold to Mault, this one from 29 yards out.
Crafton’s short rushing touchdown and the screen play gave the visiting Dons a commanding 28-0 halftime advantage.
Santa Barbara continued to roll in the third quarter, maintaining the shutout and adding two more touchdowns, with junior Nate Meister making a heavily contested touchdown catch and Rabb-Preston running in his second to make it 42-0.
That score held for the rest of the game, with a running clock in the fourth quarter to give the Dons a convincing win.
