Santa Barbara High football struggled to move the ball in a 37-7 road loss to Corona Del Mar on Friday in Newport Beach.
The Dons are now 0-2 on the young season and will return home for a non-league matchup with crosstown rival Dos Pueblos next Friday at Peabody Stadium at 7 p.m.
It was all Sea Kings in the opening half, as they stifled the Santa Barbara High offense and scored on a rushing touchdown, punt return touchdown, a field goal and a passing touchdown to take a commanding 23-0 lead into halftime.
The Dons had a chance to get on the board in the third quarter deep into the red zone, but Corona Del Mar jumped in front of a pass and returned the interception 100 yards for a pick-six and a 30-0 lead.
Santa Barbara High finally broke its scoreless stretch with a 21-yard rushing touchdown by Everett Rabb-Preston to cut the deficit to 30-7 with 10:59 left to play.
However, the Sea Kings had the last laugh as they turned a muffed punt by the Dons into a rushing touchdown to put the cherry on top of a 37-7 win.
Corona Del is now 2-0 on the season and will be on the road against Edison next week.
