Santa Barbara High girls lacrosse earned a 7-6 non-league win over Irvine High on Wednesday in Irvine.

After the Dons escaped the first quarter with a 2-1 lead, Irvine battled back and evened the score at 5-5 heading into the halftime locker room.

Irvine continued to roll in the third quarter, holding Santa Barbara High scoreless while tacking on another goal to take a 6-5 advantage with one quarter to play.

However, the Dons’ defense then buckled down and Mia Moelleken Lezama came through with the game-tying and go-ahead goals in the fourth to give Santa Barbara the 7-6 win.

Moelleken Lezama was a force throughout the match, scoring six of the team’s seven goals in the victory. She also caused five turnovers and collected 12 ground balls. Audrey Skultety scored the final goal for the Dons.

Meanwhile,  Santa Barbara High goalie Sofia Lopez came away with five saves, and Izabella De Leon had five caused turnovers and five ground balls.
