Santa Barbara High softball came away with a 7-2 non-league victory over Nordhoff at home on Thursday.
Madison Benedict lasted all seven innings in the circle, striking out four while allowing zero earned runs. Behind the plate, Amanda Houlgin turned in a strong performance that included a tag at home to clinch the win in the bottom of the seventh.
Offensively, Olivia Ressler’s second-inning two-run homer was the biggest swing of the day for the Dons. Meanwhile, Aleeya Zaragoza collected a pair of hits and Alina Magdaleno roped a double.
“Madison pitched a great game, she threw 89 pitches with 67 strikes,” Santa Barbara High coach Julie Kittle said. “The girls showed up today. We had a great week of practice. We worked on hitting off of a live pitcher and it really showed in today’s game.”
The Dons will host Bishop Diego on Friday at 4 p.m.
