Santa Barbara High senior Malachi Johnston capped off his stellar multi-sport high school career at the CIF Track & Field State Finals on Saturday in Clovis.
Johnston threw a mark of 57-0.75 in the shot put to finish eighth in California. Coming into the season, he was ranked as the 35th returner in the state.
“Such a great way for Malachi to finish. I’m so proud of him,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said. “He’s a great competitor and an even better young man. The work he puts in is tremendous and he deserves every bit of this.”
Johnston is a Cal Poly signee for football, but has shined in the throwing events for the Dons throughout his years at Santa Barbara High.
