Santa Barbara High wrestling went on the road and came away with a 54-24 dual meet win over Rio Mesa on Wednesday in Oxnard.

The Dons began the night with a pair of forfeit victories at 106 and 113 pounds. Victor Nava-Ortiz and Sammy Ramirez-Navas then came through with pins at 120 and 138 pounds, respectively, to add to the team score.

Eman Lazcano then secured a win by decision at 150 pounds, which was followed by a technical fall win at 157 pounds for Nick Egan. Moises Jimenez-Ibarra kept it rolling with a first-period pin in the 165-pound matchup.

After a forfeit victory at 175 pounds, the 215-pound Lucas Blessing and heavyweight Gabe Hoyos rounded out the Santa Barbara High scoring with big wins.

“The guys are looking to get to their shots and pin. Once they get to their turns, they dig in and work for it,” Santa Barbara High coach Rudy Cortes said.

The Dons will look to carry this momentum into the Lompoc Battle by the Sea Tournament this weekend.
