Dos Pueblos boys wrestling captured a dominant 67-11 Channel League dual meet win over Oxnard High on Wednesday night inside Sovine Gym.
The Charger boys rolled to a win thanks in part to the majority of their matchups resulting in forfeit victories, while the girls team fell by a score of 48-12.
“Of the bouts wrestled, it was a great opportunity for our wrestlers to gain more experience and try out new techniques they’ve been working on in the room,” Dos Pueblos head coach Matt Bernard said.
For the boys, Arjun Ramachandran (106 lbs.), Sage Chavez (120), Thiago Hidalgo (126), Matthew Bernard (150), Brandon Velasquez (165), Peter Swanson (175), Max Mazin (190), Ethan Ono (215) and Hector Medina-Lule (Heavyweight) all recorded wins by way of Oxnard forfeits.
Conner Leon secured a pin victory at 138 pounds, while Patrick Sullivan pulled out a minor decision win by a score of 13-8 in the 144-pound matchup. Seamus Fergus rounded out the team’s scorers with a major decision win at 157 pounds.
On the girls side, the two Dos Pueblos victories came on a pin by Ariana Valladares at 105 pounds, and a 145-pound forfeit win by Jennifer Salcedo.
The Chargers will host Ventura for another dual meet next Wednesday.
Buena 56, Santa Barbara High
The Dons dropped their meet with Buena on Wednesday inside J.R. Richards Gym.
Santa Barbara jumped out to an early lead with a forfeit win by Marcus Fore at 106 pounds, but the Bulldogs then went on a big run of victories to pull away for a lead.
The Dons got back on the board in the 157-pound battle as Nick Egan earned a dominant win.
Lucas Blessing rounded out the scoring for the Dons with a pin just 25 seconds into the second period of his matchup.
“We’re a young team learning a lot about wrestling,” Santa Barbara High head coach Chris Hamman said. “There are different parts of being a wrestler, and tonight we learned that it’s a physical sport that can push our comfort zones.
“Our guys who scored points for the team wrestled hard, got to their positions and showed some physicality. We’ll continue improving and working on getting to the spots that we are successful in.”
The Dons will host Pacifica for another dual meet next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Rio Mesa 37, San Marcos 33
San Marcos wrestling fell in their league dual meet with the Spartans on Wednesday.
The Royals got victories by ways of pins from Tripp Jones at 106 pounds, William Huynh at 132 pounds and Benjamin Chavez at 165 pounds.
At 150 pounds, Anthony Leal wrestled up a weight division and came away with a victory via technical superiority in the second period.
Daniel Olivio secured a win by decision at 138 pounds, and Alex Visueta picked up a forfeit win at 113 pounds to round out the San Marcos scoring.
