Santa Barbara High football’s Cade Mault and San Marcos cross country’s Autumn Richardson got out to stellar starts to Channel League action en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Mault did it all for the Dons in Friday night’s Channel League-opening victory over Moorpark, contributing in all three phases of the game.

The junior hauled in seven catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns, added 19 yards on the ground and nailed a 31-yard field goal to help power his team to the 38-24 win.

Meanwhile, Richardson was at the front of the pack for the Royals over the weekend to lead the team to a first-place finish at the Channel League prelim meet at Lake Casitas in Ojai.

She raced her way to a second-place overall individual showing with a strong time of 19:05.6 in the three-mile race.

The boys honorable mentions were Nate Meister (SB Football), Griffin Arnold (SB Football), Monte Prince (Cate Water Polo), Brandon Lee (SM Water Polo) and August Singer (SM Cross Country).

The girls honorable mentions were Celeste Alcaraz (DP Golf), Mia Rocha (SM Golf), Sydney Burgoyne (SB Cross Country), Jules Horton (SB Volleyball) and Karina Urzua (Bishop Volleyball).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
