The Santa Barbara High duo of Caitlyn and Nicole Buist punched their ticket to the CIF-SS Individual Championships with a strong performance on Monday.
The Buists, who defeated a strong Saugus squad, are now one of 20 teams remaining in Southern California and will look to keep their season alive on Wednesday in Claremont.
“The Dons sisters have matured as doubles players and are playing at a high level together,” Dons coach Danny Echt said. “They are intelligent and aggressive which makes their opponents uncomfortable. I think they are up for the challenge that the remaining teams present to them in Southern California.
“It’s not an accident that the Dons excelled throughout this season winning CIF Div 3; the Buists’ leadership/commitment and quality were fabulous. I enjoy working with these coachable, respectful and eager student-athletes.”
In the deciding round on Monday, Caitlyn Buist shined with her backhand returns while Nicole Buist showcased her strong volleying to defeat a pair of hard-hitting players from Saugus.
