Santa Barbara Humane is adding a special day of adoptions at its Santa Barbara shelter, noon-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The extra adoption hours come ahead of the shelter’s closure on Saturday, Sept. 19, while the Santa Barbara campus hosts Whiskers Under the Moon, the organization’s annual fundraising gala.

While the Santa Barbara shelter will be closed to the public on Sept. 19, the Veterinary Clinic will remain open for scheduled appointments.

The Santa Maria campus will continue normal operations, with adoptions, veterinary services, and dog training classes all taking place as scheduled.

Whiskers Under the Moon is the organization’s annual fundraiser. This year’s gala will feature signature cocktails, a farm-to-table dinner, live music by Just Dave Band, dancing, and auction opportunities.

Tickets purchased support Santa Barbara Humane’s mission by helping place pets into loving homes while funding affordable dog training, free and low-cost veterinary care, the Pet Food Pantry, and other programs reduce the number of animals entering the shelter system, organizers said.

“Whiskers Under the Moon is a celebration of the incredible compassion our community has for animals,” said Kerri Burns, CEO of Santa Barbara Humane.

“Every ticket purchased helps provide second chances, lifesaving medical care, and resources that keep pets healthy, safe, and with the families who love them. We’re grateful to everyone who joins us in making that possible,” she said.
