The city of Santa Barbara received $7.8 million in sales tax revenue during the quarter ended June 30, 2024, the final quarter of the city’s fiscal year, resulting in total sales tax revenues coming in about 4.0% below budget.

At the end of the fiscal year. For Fiscal Year 2024, the city’s sales tax revenue budget was $30.6 million.

The city also reported collecting $4 million in Transient Occupancy Taxes (TOT) for July 2024, the first month in the city’s fiscal year.

The TOT is a tax on transient guests staying in any hotel, inn, motel or other commercial lodging establishment for a period of less than 30 days.
 


Of the $4 million, about $3.6 million came from hotels and $400,000 from short-term rentals, the city said.

Year to date, total TOT revenues are coming in 3 % below budget.

The city’s adopted TOT budget for all funds is $34.5 million, of which $28.7 million is budgeted in the General Fund.

The city’s TOT tax rate is 12 %, of which 10 % goes to the city’s General Fund and the remaining 2 % goes to the Creeks/Clean Water Fund.
