Santa Barbara Lifeguards, Junior Guards Win State Championships

A group of professional and junior lifeguards from the City of Santa Barbara won several events at the California Surf Lifesaving Association Championships last week in Newport Beach.

At the professional level, Zane Booth captured the Open Men’s Ironman (ages 16-34), which includes a run, swim, paddle and surf ski.

In the same division, Roman Higgins took first place in the Open Beach Flags.

Top five Open Division finishers include Lucas Doering, third in Board Rescue; Garrett Haller, third in Board Rescue; Booth, fifth in Board Rescue; Charlie Beck, fourth in 90-Meter Sprint; Dino Ise, fourth in Beach Flags and fifth in Board Rescue.

In the Profesional U19 Division, Doering and Haller took first place in Board Rescue and Doering and Higgins went 1-2 in the Board Race. Higgins also won Beach Flags.

Tony Sholl, the aquatics supervisor for the City of Santa Barbara, earned a first, second and two thirds in the Masters 40-49 group. He won the Run/Swim/Run, finished runner-up in the 2k Run and placed third in the Masters Swim and Beach Flags.

There were five Santa Barbara winners among the 11 Junior Guards that competed. 

Lucas Neushul took top honors in the A Division (age 15-17) Surf Team Race and Rescue Race. In the B Group (12-13), Noah Warkentin won the Swim. His brother Wyatt Warkentin captured the C (9-11) Board Race and Run/Swim/Run, and Kumani Roth took second in the Board Race.

COUNTY LIFEGUARD WINS
