A Santa Barbara man has been arrested on suspicion of injecting a 17-year-old girl with methamphetamine and sexually assaulting her at his home in late May, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives began investigating Jeffrey Kyle Snyder, 50, after an incident on May 23, according to Santa Barbara County Superior Court records and Sheriff’s Office public information officer Raquel Zick.

Zick said detectives found that Snyder met the teenager online, “injected the female with methamphetamine and sexually assaulted her” at his residence on the 2400 block of Painted Cave Road.

He was arrested June 30 on the 2500 block of Mesa Lane Road in Carpinteria while exiting a rideshare, Zick said.

He was also wanted on a warrant related to a probation violation in a separate case.

Documents filed in Superior Court on July 1 show he was charged with using a minor to violate the Controlled Substances Act, a felony, and three enhancements related to previous felony convictions.

Zick said additional charges have been sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

He remained in jail custody as of Wednesday afternoon on bail set at $325,000.

He is scheduled to appear in Superior Court for an arraignment hearing on Friday.

Anyone with any additional information about the case can contact Detective Kiesow at 805.681.4150, Zick said. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 805.681.4171 or at SBSheriff.org.

Court records show that unrelated to the current charges, Snyder has been convicted of vandalism, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, using or being under the influence of a controlled substance, dissuading a witness by threat, and stalking.
