The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau has released the name of the man who died after falling from a utility pole early on New Year’s Day.

The victim was Faris Sanjakdar, 30, of Santa Barbara, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.

He was a project engineer for the City of Santa Barbara Public Works Department.

Sanjakdar reportedly climbed a tree and then attempted to cross over to a utility pole when he fell to the ground and suffered from major head trauma, according to County Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

Responders initially said Sanjakdar was attending a party at the time and may have been under the influence.

He was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by American Medical Response ambulance and later died, according to Lt. Jarrett Morris of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The Coroner’s Bureau is investigating the circumstances of the death.

Friends created a GoFundMe to support Sanjakdar’s partner.

“Give what you can,” fundraiser organizer Leighton Jones wrote. “This is just a quiet way for friends to help Patrick. All money will be given to Patrick to help with expenses over the next few weeks now that Faris is gone.”
