The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a 56-year-old Santa Barbara resident accused of killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision in June.
Brock Alexander Hoffman was charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, to which he pleaded not guilty during a court appearance Wednesday morning, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The charges stem from a hit-and-run accident that killed Juan Lopez, a 39-year-old Santa Barbara resident. Lopez is remembered by his family as a loving, humble father.
The collision occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. June 29 on the 800 block of Cliff Drive, near Loma Alta Drive.
Santa Barbara police investigators identified Hoffman as the driver of the vehicle that hit Lopez, and he surrendered to police on July 4. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run resulting in death, and concealing evidence, police said.
The District Attorney’s Office filed the criminal charge of leaving the scene of an accident against Hoffman on Tuesday.
He is scheduled to appear again in Santa Barbara County Superior Court on Oct. 21.
