Investigators on Thursday arrested the alleged driver in a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian on the Mesa, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

After days of investigative teamwork by traffic investigators and detectives, the vehicle involved in the collision that killed Juan Lopez, 39, of Santa Barbara last weekend was identified and located, Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale said.

“Further investigation led to the identification of the individual driving the vehicle as 55-year-old Brock Alexander Hoffman, a Santa Barbara resident,” Ragsdale said.

Hoffman surrendered at the police station Thursday morning. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run resulting in death, and misdemeanor concealing evidence, Ragsdale said.

He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $50,000.

The collision occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. June 29 on the 800 block of Cliff Drive, near Loma Alta Drive.

The investigation is continuing, Ragsdale said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Edward Kasper at 805.897.3719.
