Authorities on Tuesday released the name of the pickup truck driver who was killed earlier this month in a head-on collision on Highway 101 on the Gaviota Coast.

The victim in the Jan. 5 crash west of Goleta was Thomas McGregor, 25, of Santa Barbara, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency personnel were sent to the incident involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck just before 3 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.

After the collision, the pickup truck caught fire, and McGregor was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The semi-truck driver had minor injuries, but refused transport to the hospital.

The southbound highway was closed for almost 12 hours after the crash, which remained under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
