Santa Barbara County is blessed with a diversity of vital nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the health, well-being, growth, civic leadership and compassion of our community.
Charitable giving and philanthropy are part of our identity, which is why Noozhawk is proud to support the nonprofit community through sponsoring local community organizations and events.
To showcase our support as a sponsor of the Heart of New House Luncheon, Noozhawk spoke with Adam Burridge, Executive Director for Santa Barbara New House to learn more about their upcoming event.
Question: What is the name & date of your event?
Answer: Heart of New House Luncheon, on September 16th 2023.
Q: What is the mission, goal, and/or theme of this occasion?
A: The Heart of New House is our only formal fundraiser that helps provide scholarships to low-income men who cannot afford their initial client fees. In 2022, we were able to provide $94,501 in scholarships. This event continues to be particularly critical as we have faced financial challenges due to the pandemic and other factors in the past few years. The more funds we can raise at our luncheon, the greater capacity we will have to provide scholarships to all low-income men in recovery in need of sober living services. Our program is a lifeline to men in recovery, especially during these challenging times.
Q: Have you held this event before?
A: This is our 7th Heart of New House Luncheon.
Q: Tell us some more details about your celebration?
A: Steve Olsen, Santa Barbara New House Treasurer, and valued board member since 2016, has been named the Heart of New House Award recipient for 2023. His sound judgment and advice have kept New House on sound footing leading up to, during, and after the chaos of the pandemic. After the loss of Gordon Guy last year, Steve took over management of our annual Heart of New House luncheon.
Even more importantly, Steve actively sponsors and mentors Santa Barbara New House clients. When interacting with those men, he always takes a minute to get to know them. He asks their name and then follows up with questions such as “What brings you to New House?” or “Where are you coming from?” It’s Steve’s genuine interest and comforting demeanor that allows our clients to feel heard and respected. We are forever grateful to Steve for his patience and kindness. We are proud to recognize Steve’s dedication to Santa Barbara New House.
Q: How do people get involved with your event? (volunteer, attend, etc.)
A: Tickets are sold on our website for $100.00 at www.sbnewhouse.org.
Q: Is this a fundraising affair? If so, how will the funds raised help your organization?
A: This event is to raise scholarship money for clients seeking sober living who cannot afford their initial client fees.
Q: Do you work with an Event Planner? If not, who are the key people who make it all happen?
A: Adam Burridge, Steve Olsen, Jeff Daugherty, Deborah Talmage, and the men of Santa Barbara New House.
Q: Does your organization have any other upcoming events this year?
A: No.
Q: What are you planning as a post-event follow up?
A: We will send out formal thank you letters to all attendees.
Q: Who is sponsoring your event?
A: John Bennett and Brophy Brothers, On The Alley, Benchmark, Farmer Boy, Genuine Restaurant Concepts
