Police arrested a Santa Barbara man Friday morning after a string of incidents across town including an alleged stolen vehicle, attempted carjacking, and residential burglary.
Officers responded to a stolen vehicle call on Cliff Drive around 5:30 a.m. and soon after located the car on Milpas Street, Santa Barbara Police Commander Nathan Beltran said.
The man drove toward the officer and “attempted to use the vehicle to ram into him” but the officer was able to get out of the way, Beltran said. The driver in the suspected stolen vehicle hit a parked vehicle and then fled the area, he added.
Soon after that, the same suspect approached a woman seated in her vehicle near Salinas and Gutierrez streets. He attempted to take her car, and pointed a cell phone at her while pretending to be armed with a gun, police said. The woman was able to drive safely away and call police, Beltran said.
“As officers continued searching for the suspect, they received a call that he had forced entry into a residence in the 900 block of East Carrillo St. The suspect subsequently left that residence and attempted to force entry into a second residence in the 1000 block of East Canon Perdido Street,” Beltran said in a statement.
Officers responded and located him and were able to take him into custody after de-escalation efforts, Beltran said.
No injuries were reported to police, members of the public or the suspect, he said.
The man was identified as Samuel Ingram, 25, of Santa Barbara.
