This past weekend, the Santa Barbara Police Department conducted a focused e-bike enforcement operation to reduce unsafe riding, prevent collisions, and enhance public safety.
During the two-day operation, officers issued 39 citations for unsafe e-bike operation and towed six unlawfully operated e-motorcycles from city streets.
In addition to enforcement, officers educated riders and parents about safe riding practices and applicable laws.
This operation is one component of the Santa Barbara Police Department’s ongoing efforts to address e-bike safety concerns across the city.
The department continues to use a balanced approach that combines education, focused enforcement, and community engagement to promote responsible riding and improve compliance with applicable laws, officials said.
“The Santa Barbara Police Department recognizes that e-bike safety is a citywide concern,” officials said. “As a result, similar enforcement operations will continue throughout Santa Barbara City to help ensure these efforts reach all areas of our community.
“As the summer progresses and students prepare to return to school, the department will continue its efforts through additional focused enforcement operations, educational outreach, and partnerships with local schools and community stakeholders.”
