An unidentified man robbed a Santa Barbara bank while brandishing a handgun Tuesday afternoon and fled on foot, police said.

Police responded to a report of a robbery at bank on the 900 block of Carpinteria Ave. at 2:21 p.m., Sgt. Bryan Kerr said.

KEYT reported that Mechanics Bank, at 914 Carpinteria St., was the location of the robbery.

“The suspect approached the teller while brandishing a black handgun. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect left on foot,” Kerr said. The man left the scene before officers arrived, he added.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

“The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, approximately 5’7″ tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the hood pulled over a dark-colored baseball cap. He also wore a dark-colored cloth mask covering his face, blue jeans, and light-colored shoes,” Kerr said.
