A man allegedly barricaded himself in his Santa Barbara apartment after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance Sunday night. Police remained at the scene overnight and took the man into custody Monday afternoon.
Officers responded to a call on the 500 block of North Salsipuedes Street around 8:30 p.m. and the man involved “had barricaded himself in the apartment and would not comply with the officer’s commands to surrender,” Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale said Monday morning.
The female victim involved in the incident was able to leave, and was currently safe, he added.
The SWAT team and crisis negotiation response team responded to the scene.
Multiple police vehicles were in the area and part of the street was taped off all morning. Ragsdale said police ask people to stay out of the area.
“There is currently no threat to surrounding residences and schools,” he said.
The standoff was in full effect when residents began arriving to work, with most of them wondering what was happening.
Brian Clark, who works at the Catholic Charities office next door, said the street was blocked off when he arrived.

Someone who was there earlier told him that a police drone had been hovering above the apartment building since 6:30 a.m. Clark said the drone had not moved since he arrived.
Police cordoned off the street and asked the Santa Barbara Fire Department to stand by. Police vehicles were stationed in the MTD lot across from the building and an officer was seen putting on protective gear.
As of 1 p.m., police said the standoff was resolved and a man was taken into custody. No further details were available.
Several police vehicles remained at the scene due to the investigation, department officials wrote on social media.
Noozhawk staff writer Daniel Green reported from the scene.
