Santa Barbara Police were searching Wednesday for a man who robbed the Bank of America on Coast Village Road shortly before 3 p.m.
The suspect — described as approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a black or dark hoodie with a mask covering his face — brandished what appeared to be a handgun, according to police Cmdr. Nathan Beltran.
He left out the rear of the bank at 1096 Coast Village Road, and jumped on a bicycle while wearing a black backpack, according to radio traffic.
Police converged on the area, and were assisted by a tracking K-9 unit from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect possibly was seen taking the tunnel under the freeway toward the beach area, and officers searched the nearby bike path and train tracks.
Officers reportedly found a backpack belonging to the suspect that contained items he was wearing.
The man reportedly made off with $3,000 in cash.
As of 5:30 p.m., the suspect remained at large, Beltran said, and the investigation was continuing.
