The Santa Barbara Police Department arrested a shooting suspect on Saturday after a lengthy standoff at an apartment near downtown Santa Barbara.

The incident began at about 6:30 a.m. with an altercation between two men on the 300 block of Canon Perdido, according to Lt. Antonio Montojo.

Several officers responded to the scene, Montojo said, and learned that Marcos Ramos, 46, allegedly shot at the other man, who was not hurt.

Ramos then fled to his apartment on the 200 block, about half a block from where the shooting happened.

Officers surrounded the apartment, Montojo said, and residents of the building were evacuated while police attempted to communicate with Ramos and convince him to surrender.

Ramos finally agreed to exit the apartment at about 10 a.m., and was arrested without incident, Montojo added.

A witness told Noozhawk shell casings from a handgun were found at the shooting scene.

Ramos was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a loaded firearm, prohibited person with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm, all of which are felonies.

He also was booked on misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed firearm and resisting arrest.

Ramos remained in custody Saturday night, with bail set at $1 million.
