The Santa Barbara Royals ice hockey team faltered down the stretch and fell to the Loyola Cubs by a score of 6-5 in overtime on Saturday in Paramount.
The Royals held the advantage for the majority of the matchup, leading the Cubs 2-1 after the first period and 4-2 after the second period.
Santa Barbara also led 5-3 with five minutes left to play, but Loyola came roaring back with two unanswered goals to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Loyola stayed hot and scored on its first shift of the 3v3 matchup to secure the win.
Primo Steavu scored twice for Santa Barbara, while AJ Sweet, Gavin Fernandez and Lorenzo Swiatek each tallied one goal. Defensively, goalie Dean Wendel allowed just six goals after facing 37 shots.
