Santa Barbara got on the board with two runs in the first inning but Westlake came back in the middle innings for a 3-2 win Thursday.
The Dons’ Michael Firestone drove in Dane Dawson with a single and Cal Wipf knocked in Kai Mault with an RBI ground ball to second in the first inning.
That was it for the Santa Barbara offense, while Westlake scored two in the third inning and one in the fourth to take the narrow win.
Right-handed starter Eric Anthony allowed five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking one.
“Eric pitched well enough to get the win,” Dons coach Steve Schuck said. “The offense did not give him much support.
“We have to do a better job at putting the ball in play. We are chasing pitches out of the zone and taking strikes. Hitting is a mentality. We need to be more aggressive in the zone and lay off pitches that we cant hit hard.”
The Santa Barbara defense played error-free ball, but “the defense gave up a run not covering the right bag on a bunt,” Schuck said. “We will get this cleaned up and move on.”
Firestone 2-for-3 at the plate, and Santa Barbara stole four bases for the game.
