Santa Barbara Sky FC has postponed its inaugural season to March 2027, the organization announced on social media on Friday.

In an update emailed to Noozhawk, Santa Barbara Sky FC stated, “After careful evaluation, we’ve decided that Santa Barbara Sky will not be kicking off next season as planned. This doesn’t mean we’re slowing down. We’re finalizing the ownership group and preparing for sanctioning, with a plan to take the field in March 2027.

“The additional time allows us to do this the right way and build a club ready to thrive. The support from our fans keeps us moving forward, and when Sky FC makes its debut, it will be worth the wait. Until then, we’ll be out in the community, growing our fan base and building together.”

The organization’s inaugural season has been postponed due to “ownership, sanctioning and stadium plans” not being finalized in time for the 2026 USL Championship season kick-off this coming March.

This is the third time the inaugural season has been pushed back, as the team had originally planned to take the field in 2024, following its announcement in 2022.

While the Sky FC front office staff has been hired, there has yet to be a coaching or technical staff brought on board. The organization cannot begin the process of signing players until it has brought on its coaches.

Meanwhile, the organization is also in the process of improving its home field of Harder Stadium at UCSB with premium seating, VIP sections, improved food and beverage options and fan supporter sections.

Existing season ticket deposit holders will now automatically be transferred to the inaugural season currently planned for 2027. Those who would like a refund must contact the organization at info@santabarbaraskyfc.com.

The sponsors and partners of the club have the option to remain with the club or can be adapted to fit the new timeline in place.

Sky FC will continue to host fan supporter group meetings, watch parties and community events coordinated through social media.
