Rich Foster wants to be the next mayor of Goleta.

The community activist says in the latest episode of Santa Barbara Talks with Josh Molina that the city needs to manage its finances better. He also raises concerns about the Old Town restriping project and the amount of market-rate housing that the county is building on the edge of Goleta.

“There are two reasons we became a city,” Foster said. “People were very upset about the roads and they also felt the county was becoming a dumping ground for housing.”

He said the city should be focusing on potholes and its infrastructure.

“Our roads are really terrible right now,” Foster said.

Foster is a regular at City Council meetings. He has recently spoke out against the Old Town restriping project. The city reduced the street from two lanes in each direction to one, eliminated some left turns onto Hollister Avenue and created back-in, diagonal parking.

“I do think eventually it would be better to go ahead and re-stripe those diagonal slots the other direction” Foster said. “The majority of people are comfortable with that.”
