Santa Barbara Volleyball Club had five squads competing in the three-day WCVBA Winter Classic in San Jose over the weekend, bringing home a pair of championships.
14 and Under Division
The SBVC 14s cruised through the tournament, going 10-0 without dropping a single set on their way to a championship victory over Encore, 25-21, 25-20.
Meanwhile, the SBVC 13s played up an age division and placed 25th as a team.
16 and Under Division
The SBVC 15s also came away with a championship after going 9-0 overall and 18-1 in sets while competing against older competition. Kira Elliott and Jacqueline Durling led the way with 79 and 58 points, respectively.
The 15/16s combination team also turned in a strong weekend representing SBVC, ending in 14th place.

“It was an amazing experience for the girls to play in their first tournament of the year, and they played at a high level throughout the weekend,” SBVC 15/16 coach Tanner Stevens said. “Kira Sample had a stellar weekend from the right side, taking many big swings.
“Faith Harrison and Addie Duex were forces in the middle, both offensively and defensively. With lots of girls playing multiple positions and moving around, we are excited to see the team evolve throughout the club season.”
The 16s team rounded out the SBVC teams in the tournament by taking third place in the division.
“The SBVC 16s team worked hard and stayed positive throughout the weekend,” SBVC 16 coach Loren Ayers said. “Our libero, Paylin Marcillac, shined this weekend with over 25 aces and countless digs.
“The team had an extremely successful weekend, even with multiple injuries and last-minute position changes.”
Montecito Volleyball Club
The Montecito Volleyball Club had a successful weekend as well, capturing the 13-and-under division championship at the NCVA San Jose Tournament.
The MVC squad went undefeated in nine games played, winning eight of its nine matchups in two-set sweeps.

In the championship matchup, MVC took down Sand VBC in straight sets 25-8, 25-19.
“They learned what it meant to play as a team and deal with adversity when things get tight” MVC interim coach Steve Rottman said. “They got better and better with each match playing their best match in the championship final.
“After seeing them play and looking at the competition day one, I felt they should be contenders to win this event. So I went all in with making them believe that if we keep our “championship mentality” and put the team first when we face adversity, we can win this tournament.”
The 13s team consists of Charlottes Rottman, Tanner Jaeger, Greta Alldredge, Emma Frias, Allie Berrett, Sammy Natalie, Jacqui Stoll, Savannah Hoover, Ruby Donahoe and Teddy Cronin.
The Montecito Volleyball Club directed by Steven Valdez and consist of 3 girls teams, 13’s, 14’s and 15’s.
